Kiwicare Case Study

Kiwicare has grown from humble beginnings into a trusted Kiwi brand, helping people take care of their backyards with practical and innovative solutions for pest, weed, and plant care. Their mission is to empower people to protect their homes and the environment, making a real difference one home at a time, while staying true to their commitment to preserve New Zealand’s natural beauty.

Purpose

Kiwicare acquired a company so that it doubled in size. The challenges were

  • Team leaders continued to identify with their company of origin from before the merger

  • The need to manage larger teams of people. Moving from a small to medium sized organisation

  • Awareness of the limited experience of the skills and tools to manage people well

  • CliftonStrengths was adopted as a profile tool, but had not been applied and integrated

Process

Two comprehensive training programmes were implemented over 2 1/2 years with an extended group of 30 current and emerging leaders

  • 1-1 coaching for the senior leadership team to debrief their strengths profile and start the understanding and cascading of the language of CliftonStrengths

  • 5 Boss to Coach workshops applying the ClitfonStrengths profile to 5 performance development conversations aligned with Kiwicare’s business cycle. Supported with easy to follow conversation templates

  • 4 Coach to Lead workshops to provide deep understanding of their CliftonStrengths profile, through the lens of the four needs of followers and increase awareness of their impact

  • Advanced support for an internally trained coach

Outcome

  • Increased 1-1 coaching capability

  • Supported team leader connection across the business reducing working silos

  • Adopted easy to use templates as to “how we do things around here”

Here’s what people had to say

“Setting expectations created an authentic conversation”

“Getting a lot out of the feedback questions working, stuck, differently. Using with customers is a really great conversation structure for feedback”

“Love the check in template it’s a standout”
